Connahs Quay defeated TNS 3-1 thanks to goals from Rhys Hughes, Dan Williams (OG) and Callum West, which capped off a thoroughly deserved victory.

In a highly anticipated encounter, TNS came out and controlled possession in the opening minutes of the game and could have found themselves in front when midfielder Dan Williams blazed over the bar from the edge of the box.

Then after seven minutes, Connahs Quay were awarded a penalty when TNS defender Jordan Marshall brought down Harry Franklin with a clumsy challenge after some great Centre-forward play.

Rhys Hughes then stepped up and calmly slotted his penalty into the bottom right corner as Nomads clinched the lead.

The Flintshire side were starting to take a grip on proceedings and nearly found themselves two goals up when Callum West and Harry Franklin broke past the defence then squaring to goal scorer Hughes before a last-ditch goaline clearance from Ben Clark denied him.

Just after this, there was concern for Nomads as leading scorer Harry Franklin was substituted off due to injury and was replaced by Max Woodcock.

However, this would not trouble Connahs Quay as they doubled their lead just five minutes before half-time after some good work from midfielder Noah Edwards, whose cross was turned into his own net by Dan Williams.

This gave the nomads a two-nil cushion at half-time.

Defending champions TNS then came out more agressive in the second half and pulled a goal back when forward Jordan Williams broke the offside trap and calmly finished into the bottom corner leaving goalkeeper Kit Margetson with no chance.

The league leaders now had a spring in their step and nearly found an equaliser when substitute Ryan Brobbel curled an excellent free kick that was heading for the top corner only to be denied by a stunning save from Margetson.

Just five minutes later, the game was put to bed after an outstanding solo goal by Connahs Quay attacking midfielder Callum West.

After winning possession in his own half he danced through the remaining TNS defenders and sat down captain Danny Davies and goalkeeper Nathan Sheppard before slotting into an empty net as this restored Nomads two goal lead.

The Oswestry side didn’t give up as striker Jordan Williams nearly got another goal back when his outrageous effort from the halfway line agonisingly hit the crossbar.

Connahs Quay saw the rest of the game out and recorded their first league win over TNS since 2021.
