The future of Connah’s Quay Nomads begins with its people. It always has. It always will.

A club driven by community engagement, this event was the perfect opportunity to bring all fans, players, staff and partners together under one roof at Ty Calon and outline ‘The Quay Vision’ for the next five years.

Ty Calon are one of several new partners working with Connah’s Quay Nomads this season. The centre is located in Queensferry, straight down the Connah’s Quay high street and will continue to host the club’s meetings and events.

As everyone took their seat, former Sky Sports correspondent Bryn Law began the presentation by praising Connah’s Quay’s setup and how much the club means to him.

“I have followed football in North Wales nearly all my life, and Connah’s Quay Nomads means an awful lot to me,” said Law.

“Everyone here today can clearly see that the Nomads are heading straight for success in the future, and that goes for all sectors of the club such as the senior men’s, senior women’s team and all academy sides, who are clearly dedicated to their programme as there is a sea of red here today.”

Former Sky Sports correspondent Bryn Law, who has covered some of the UK’s biggest stories, has strong links to Connah’s Quay Nomads. He has hosted previous events and has even commentated on the club’s home matches in European qualifiers.
Attendees included those closely associated with Connah’s Quay Nomads as the room began to fill prior to Law’s opening speech.

One of the main reasons for this event taking place was for the community to discover plans of where the Nomads will be hosting their games in the near future.

The Nomads currently play at the Essity Stadium located in Flint – two miles from Connah’s Quay.

It is almost impossible not to go to a Nomads game at the Essity nowadays without the questions ‘Are the club building a new stadium?’ or ‘Where are the Nomads going to play their home games next?’ being asked.

This event provided those answers, with everyone glued to the stage.

The Nomads have set out their vision to have a 4,000 seater stadium at Ty Calon. The stadium would be able to host all of the club’s home matches, including European qualifiers.

A clear plan, a clear vision – an appealing stadium with 4,000 seats at Ty Calon which would bring the local pride and community back to Connah’s Quay.

To add to the excitement, the Welsh Rugby Union would also back the project as the hybrid turf pitch would be shared with Shotton Steel RFC.

For many Nomads fans, this was not just a day about the vision for a new stadium, but it was the thought of coming back home that meant so much too.

It was a reminder of why the club exists – to represent the people of Connah’s Quay.

The idea gave those from different generations the chance to talk about the good old days and memories from playing in Connah’s Quay.

Connah’s Quay Nomads president John Gray and forward Max Woodcock seem excited about the new stadium idea. Gray, a Nomads Hall of Famer, has already been influential to the club’s infrastructure after bidding £350,000 to build The Quay 3G, which is still used for all training sessions and academy matches.

Aims of performing to a high standard on the pitch, winning trophies and reaching European qualifiers were also reiterated as success on the pitch will mean even more when it is achieved with the backing of an entire community behind it.

“We must remember this is still an idea and that nothing is confirmed yet,” said Connah’s Quay Nomads Director of Football Jay Catton.

“The key word for this project is potential and yes, early discussions are going well. We are delighted to have this partnership with Ty Calon, where all the changing rooms and medical facilities needed for Cymru Premier and UEFA licensing are already here for us, so that is credit to the fantastic team working here.”

Director of Football Jay Catton and Commercial Director Chris Redfern informed attendees of where the stadium would be built if the idea was given the green light.

As a reward for their loyal support this season and throughout the years, fans were able to voice their queries, opinions and questions.

Catton, along with First Team Manager John Disney and FA Wales Club Development Manager Joseph Donkor were all up on stage to provide the responses and give fans an insight into where they want Connah’s Quay Nomads to be in five years.

Bryn Law chats with Joseph Donkor, John Disney and Jay Catton during ‘The Quay Vision’. Donkor (speaking) has been working with all Cymru Premier clubs over the past year to create a healthy five-year strategy. ”We know this league needs to become more competitive, and these strategies, these visions, are hopefully going to gibe our league a bright future,” he said.

The main message to take from the event was clear – this was about more than football. It was about a sense of togetherness and having pride in a place many in attendance called home.

“Today has been magnificent to see our community come together,” said Catton. “We have been looking forward to this event for a long time and it has given us a great chance to lay out our foundations to fans, players, families, volunteers, sponsors and partners.

“Everyone is chatting, everyone is excited. This is just our vision and we as a whole community, are going to be working together to help try and make this a reality. The support from our fanbase has always been the heartbeat of this club, and that is what will drive us forward.”

Jay Catton discusses the Ty Calon stadium idea, with the vision of bringing the Nomads back home. Catton, 37, is one of the club’s longest serving staff members and continues to be assistant manager to John Disney alongside his Director of Football role.
